[Proxmox VPS] Automatic OS installation?

Postby Snikkt » 2nd January 2015, 3:19 pm

Hi everybody.

I've been studying Modulesgarden Proxmox VPS module for WHMCS and like it much. But one very important thing is either missing or I haven't figured out how it should work.

I've created one ubuntu template on whmcs with 5GB disk.

If I now create new order of ubuntu server with 50GB disk and use the ubuntu template, I will get VM with 5GB disk as on template and no dedicated IP even on product details. Also VM username and password are the same as on template.
If I create new order and don't use template, I get empty VM with correct parameters and dedicated IP on product details but I would have to install OS by myself from ISO with VNC (or Spice).

Is this really the way it should work? And does the module create network settings with own IP for the server in any case?

Hello,

If I now create new order of ubuntu server with 50GB disk and use the ubuntu template, I will get VM with 5GB disk as on template and no dedicated IP even on product details. Also VM username and password are the same as on template.

In order to solve the problem, please check your configuration as shown in the guide available on our Wiki (starting from the 17th step):
http://www.docs.modulesgarden.com/Proxmox_VPS_For_WHMCS#Configuration_of_Product

If you follow all steps carefully the problem should be solved. In case any other issues occur, please open a ticket and include as many details as possible. Our support team will make every effort to find a solution for you.

And does the module create network settings with own IP for the server in any case?

Yes, it does. Simply follow the instruction and configure the addon accordingly: http://www.docs.modulesgarden.com/Proxmox_VPS_For_WHMCS#Configuration_of_Addon

I'm pretty sure I've done just like wiki guides since it was my only instructions when I set up the module.

Is it sure it really should do all that for KVM VMs? I know it's easily possible with OpenVZ but no sane hosting company want's to use OpenVZ for serious servers

Please proceed accordingly:

1. Add a cron job shown below (each 5 minutes suggested):

php -q /your_whmcs/modules/servers/proxmoxVPS/cron/cron.php

Do not forget to replace 'your_whmcs' with your WHMCS root location.

2. Click 'Create' to clone VM from a template.

3. If cloning is finished, cron will set up parameters for VM (IP, disk space, RAM space).

Any update on this?

I have been wondering the same thing. Is it possible to automatically apply dedicated IPs, correct disk size, etc. to KVM templates?
