HostBill was on the right track but then they got stupid and started messing with the price to a unreasonable amount and pretty much killed themselves. WHMCS is a good product but as we can see lately they have been getting exploited so confidence as ran low with them.
Ubersmith... Well lets just say they are out of reach pricing wise for most small to mid sized host.
If you were to bring a product to market in the $400 or lower owned price range or maybe $15-$20 monthly lease I am sure it would be a hot item..
Ubersmith is out of reach for pretty any company no matter the size that does anything other than dedicated servers and colocation. As they charge a per client fee it makes it very difficult to do anything but datacenter services using the system...we have used it in the past and coin'd it "uber****".
It is ok, but not for most people.

We've been already considering building our own Bigger Products/Systems and its definitely something we'd like to go with in future, yet so far we are focused on extending ModulesGarden business itself. Unfortunately, that product will be not a Billing System for hosting . So far we feel this market is already full, "Red Ocean" is not the direction we want to extend our business.
I would disagree that the ocean is full. As a client outside looking in if there was a solid alternative to WHMCS we would likely jump ship as quickly as humanly possible. There are many other solutions out there, but they tend to be missing even some of the most basic features.
Building a billing system would obviously be a HUGE endeavor, but it honestly would be nice to have a REAL solution as opposed to a duct taped together whmcs like most of us are using.
